Trauma Therapy: Healing Old Wounds, Creating New Strength

Trauma is more than a single event—it’s a deeply personal and complex experience that can leave lasting emotional scars. These experiences shape the way we see ourselves, connect with others, and respond to stress. Without support, trauma can quietly impact our work, relationships, parenting, and overall sense of self.

You may notice:

  • The weight of a painful childhood still influencing how you cope as an adult.

  • Current challenges triggering old wounds, straining your closest relationships.

  • Fears of abandonment, rejection, or failure making it hard to trust or form deeper connections.

  • The emotional aftermath of betrayal, loss, or painful life experiences feeling too heavy to carry alone.

At Practicing Wholeness, trauma therapy offers a safe, compassionate space to explore these wounds without judgment. Using evidence-based approaches, we help you understand how trauma shows up in your life today—and guide you toward healing, resilience, and a stronger sense of self.

Healing from Trauma: Rebuilding Trust, Safety, and Connection

Trauma can leave deep emotional imprints, shaping how we navigate relationships, handle stress, and move through the world. For many, repeated painful experiences create feelings of fear, disconnection, or numbness—making it difficult to trust ourselves and others. When these wounds remain unprocessed, they can interfere with intimacy, leaving us feeling isolated even in our closest relationships.

To cope, you may find yourself withdrawing, shutting down, or relying on protective behaviors that once helped you survive but now keep you distant from the people you love. Trust may feel fragile. Emotional safety may feel out of reach. These patterns are not signs of brokenness—they are the mind’s way of protecting itself from pain.

Trauma therapy offers a safe, supportive space to gently explore these patterns, process unresolved pain, and begin the journey toward healing. With the right support, you can rebuild trust in yourself and others, strengthen your sense of security, and reconnect with the people who matter most.

Healing from trauma isn’t just about understanding the past—it’s about learning how to feel safe in connection again. Trauma therapy helps uncover the ways past experiences shape your emotions, reactions, and relationship patterns today. For many, this means gently exploring the barriers to trust and intimacy, breaking free from cycles of avoidance, and learning how to engage with vulnerability in a way that feels secure.

Through guided conversations and a supportive therapeutic space, trauma therapy helps individuals and couples reshape unhelpful patterns, foster emotional safety, and rebuild closeness. With care and guidance, it becomes possible to shift from feeling stuck in pain to developing resilience, healthier ways of relating, and a stronger foundation of trust.

You don’t have to carry these wounds alone—healing is possible, and connection can be rebuilt.

Our Approach

Frequently Asked

  • We are an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. Most insurance plans do not cover couples therapy and require a mental health diagnosis, which can impact the length of sessions and our approach to care.

Our work is holistic and client-centered, focusing on you and your relationship as a whole—not just a diagnosis. We also prioritize confidentiality, which can be affected by insurance involvement.

To help with out-of-network costs, we partner with Mentaya, a service that assists clients in getting reimbursed for therapy. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will handle claim submissions and insurance paperwork on your behalf. We can also provide a receipt (superbill) for you to submit directly to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.

  • We offer both in office sessions and virtual sessions through our secure online platform!

  • The length of time to see progress can vary based on the individual or couple's specific needs and the complexity of the trauma. Some clients begin noticing changes after just a few sessions, while others may take several months to fully process and heal. The goal of therapy is to create lasting change at your pace, with support every step of the way.

  • Trauma therapy can be beneficial for both individuals and couples. Whether you're seeking help for personal healing or working through relationship difficulties caused by trauma, our approach is tailored to support your unique needs. EFT can help individuals process trauma on their own or as part of couples' therapy, fostering deeper emotional understanding and growth.

  • This depends on your unique needs and circumstances, as every client’s journey is different. Some clients find meaningful progress in a few months, while others benefit from ongoing support for a year or more. My goal is never to keep you in therapy longer than necessary, but to meet you where you are, provide transparency, and support you in a way that feels right for you.

  • Q: Therapy can be expensive—how do I know if it’s worth the investment?

Investing in therapy is an investment in yourself, your relationships, and your overall well-being. The benefits extend beyond the therapy room, helping you break unhealthy patterns, improve communication, and build deeper emotional connections. While the cost may feel significant, the long-term value—greater self-awareness, healthier relationships, and emotional resilience—often outweighs the expense. Many clients find that the clarity and growth they gain through therapy positively impact multiple areas of their lives, making it one of the most meaningful investments they can make.
